Blaine is located in the northwest corner of Whatcom County, directly bordered by British Columbia. Blaine also boasts the convenience of Drayton Harbor and terrain consisting of level agricultural areas with scattered forests and a mild climate.
The community’s industry is influenced by its proximity to the Puget Sound’s rich fishing resources and its shared border with Canada. The Canadian Free Trade Agreement creates great potential for the Blaine area. Full service utilities, including natural gas, are available as is a fiber optic network for businesses. In addition to the downtown business community, the Blaine Center Mall and Birch Bay Square serve both local and Canadian shoppers.
The Port of Bellingham’s newly renovated marina at Blaine Harbor has nearly 600 state-of-the-art boat slips for commercial and pleasure boats. The harbor has permanent moorage available as well as more than 700 feet of visitor moorage. The marina includes turn-of-the-century style lampposts, hanging flower baskets, beautiful landscaping and waterfront trails leading into historic downtown Blaine.
Blaine’s citizens know how to enjoy life. Fishing in the Puget Sound is one of their favorite activities, while terra firma pastimes include clamming on the shore, hiking, skiing and camping in nearby Mt. Baker National Park, or experiencing the variety of cultural offerings in Vancouver, B.C., thirty miles to the north. Blaine’s location and resources make it a city for today, with an exciting future.
