Cabbage
Cabbage is a cancer-fighting vegetable. Remember not to put too much cabbage as it can cause gas. Steam the cabbage and add a little to your dog’s dinner.
Brown Rice
Most commercial dog food contains brown rice and other grains. Brown rice is nutritious for dogs but use it sparingly. It provides carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals. It is easily digestible and helps in soothing the dog’s gut. You can mix the rice with lean beef or chicken in a 50:50 ratio. Large dogs can have a quarter cup of rice, and small dogs less than a quarter.
Red Pepper
Serve your dog raw red pepper to increase vitamins. It contains high levels of Vitamin A, C, E, and antioxidants. Red pepper boosts the immune system and prevents inflammation. It’s surprising how many dogs love taking red pepper as an alternative snack.
Red pepper is rich in beta carotene, nine times more than green and yellow pepper. Beta carotene is converted to Vitamin A, which is good for eyesight and the dog’s skin. Feed a smaller dog 1-3 slices in a day and for larger dogs a half red bell pepper.
Pumpkin
Pumpkin is rich in beta carotene, fiber, zinc, iron, alpha-carotene, Vitamin A, and potassium. It can be cooked in the oven, or you buy canned pumpkin. It is a low-fat vegetable and can help your dog lose weight.
Due to its high fiber content, it helps bulk up stool and prevent diarrhea and constipation. You can combine the pumpkin with peanut butter, cinnamon, and coconut oil to make it yummy. 2-3 teaspoons of baked pumpkin is enough in a day.
Apples
Apples are crispy and healthy treats to give your dog. They are rich in pectin, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, and calcium. Make sure you remove the core and the seed before feeding your dog. Apples are low in protein and fat; therefore, good for seniors’ dogs. You can slice the apples and add them to the meal or combine apples with pumpkins.
Bananas
Bananas are healthy fruits that have potassium, vitamins, high fiber, sodium, and copper. They are rich in calories, which keeps the energy levels high. Bananas contribute to a healthy heart and better digestion. A small banana has at least 12 grams of sugar, so moderate the serving.
